Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Announces Call for Volunteers

Volunteers Needed for Festivals, Clean-Ups, Speaking Opportunities, and More!

Upcoming Opportunity: Atlanta BeltLine Corridor Clean-Up in Preparation for Southwest 5K

ATLANTA (June 19, 2012) The Atlanta BeltLine Partnership (ABLP) announces a call for volunteers to support the diverse needs of the non-profit organization responsible for raising awareness and support for the Atlanta BeltLine. ABLP raises funds through private and philanthropic sources, and serves as a catalyst to mobilize these resources for addressing social concerns raised by new development around the Atlanta BeltLine – all with a limited staff of just four employees. This is possible only with the support of the more than 1,000 volunteers who have invested countless hours helping with critical areas such as:

• Awareness: Helping raise awareness of the Atlanta BeltLine at Atlanta events and festivals, and through the Ambassador Program, which is responsible for grassroots communications across communities
• Education: Presenting information to the public via the Atlanta BeltLine Speakers Bureau
• Clean-Ups: Helping clean litter, debris and invasive growth around the Atlanta BeltLine. In addition to many organized neighborhood clean-ups, the Adopt-the-Atlanta BeltLine program – initially designed for groups to take ownership of segments of the Atlanta BeltLine – is expanding this year to offer individuals the opportunity to engage as well.
  ***Volunteers are needed for the Saturday, June 23rd Atlanta BeltLine Corridor Clean-Up from 9 a.m. to noon in preparation for the Atlanta BeltLine Southwest 5K taking place on July 14th. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Kroger parking lot at 590 Cascade Ave., Atlanta, GA. To participate, volunteers should RSVP at atlantabeltlinecleanup.eventbrite.com.***

“The beauty of Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Volunteer Programs is that Atlantans can truly engage in and contribute to the progress of a project that is changing the face of Atlanta,” said Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Executive Director, Valarie Wilson. “Volunteers also enjoy the growth and leadership opportunities available through their ongoing involvement.”

A number of Atlanta BeltLine volunteers have transformed their involvement into leadership roles and even paid positions working with the Atlanta BeltLine. With more than five years of Atlanta BeltLine volunteer work under her belt, former Atlanta BeltLine volunteer-turned-employee Jenny Pittam parlayed her professional marketing expertise coupled with her in-depth knowledge of the project into a full-time communications position with Atlanta BeltLine Inc. “I became fascinated with the Atlanta BeltLine because of its huge scope, undeniable ability to modernize our city, and the creation of desperately-needed parks and commute alternatives provided by transit and trails,” said Pittam. “I first volunteered for the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership’s local festival program, then began working with volunteers and marketing as part of Art on the Atlanta BeltLine, and now I am fortunate to support my passion for the project as a full-time employee.”
