COUNCILMEMBER H. LAMAR WILLIS SEEKS A MASTERPLAN FOR DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT
ATLANTA – Councilmember H. Lamar Willis introduced legislation during Monday’s Full Council meeting to create a Downtown Development Technical Advisory Group (DDTAG). The purpose of the group is to create a master plan that incorporates a series of large projects already in the works for downtown.
Those projects include: The National Civil and Human Rights Museum, College Hall of Fame, Multi Modal Passenger Terminal (MMPT), New Falcons Stadium, and Turner Field Redevelopment. The group would also be responsible for identifying future development opportunities for Downtown Atlanta.
“The difference between this Advisory Group and others is that we are asking for resources to develop a tangible action plan that will not only maximize the impact of the major projects we have planned for Downtown, but also to make Downtown attractive for future investment,” said Willis.
The legislation, Co-Sponsored by Council members Keisha Lance Bottoms, Kwanzaa Hall, Joyce Sheppard, Cleta Winslow, and Ivory Lee Young, calls for the Mayor’s administration to earmark up to $500,000 to develop the master plan. If approved, DDTAG will consist of representatives from City Council, Georgia State, MARTA, Invest Atlanta, and several business and community leaders.
